                                                                      JANUARY MEETING

     The PAL members meeting will be held at the home of Debbie Scott at 104 River Road in Poquoson on Friday, January 27.   Marie Trice an art league member will be presenting the program doing a mosaic birdhouse using cut glass and grout.  The meeting will start at 10:30 and it will be a covered dish luncheon.  Please try to join us.  Bring a dish and a friend.

    We will be accepting nominations from the floor and voting for the officers for 2012 at this meeting.

Membership dues are due on February 28.  Cost is $25.00 for members and an additional $5.00 for associates and spouses.  Dues should be sent to Debbie Pittman 103 Chesman Landing  Seaford, Va. 23696

                                                 THE HOLIDAY GALLERY

Thank you to Bronwyn Evans for all of your hard work.  Members like Bronwyn and the others that worked, participated and donated raffle items are what made the Holiday Gallery another success!  Vendor sales were $8,928.50 and raffle sales were $330.00.   Fantastic!

                                                  FEBRUARY BOARD MEETING

The February Board Meeting will take place on February 13 at the home of Alice Nell Firth at 

116 Lodge Rd. in Poquoson.  The meeting will start at 10:00.

                                          ART APPRECIATION MONTH                                                                                

March is art appreciation month.  The board voted to increase the amount of the donation given by PAL to the art department, at each of 4 schools in Poquoson from $500.00 to $750.00.  The presentation will be made to the art teachers in March.

                                                    SCHOLARSHIP

    Debbie Scott will chair the scholarship committee.   The scholarships are given to 1 or 2 graduating seniors at Poquoson High School who plan to major in art.  The presentation will be made in June at the awards night ceremony.   Thank you Debbie.    

                                                 SEAFOOD FESTIVAL

     We are again fortunate to have Andrea Forrest to be heading up the seafood festival.  Applications will be mailed soon and the dates for the festival are October 19,20, & 21.  Mark your calendars.     

                                                      AREA EVENTS

     The Muscarelle Museum of Art in Williamsburg is still featuring “Seeing Color Secrets of the Impressionists”  through January 22.   Works by Renoir, Monet, Degas and many others are on display.  This is considered one of the most important exhibitions in the history of the museum.  There is still time and it’s well worth seeing.

      Peggy Newcomb reports that the Pen Women’s Group will be meeting at 10:00 on   Saturday January 21 at the museum.  They will meet with a docent to tour the exhibit.  The group will have lunch at Opus 9 following the tour.   If you are interested in joining them, contact Peggy at 804 642-6930.

                                                  BLUE SKIES GALLERY  

     Please contact Julie Strouse (757 850-3515) if you want to exhibit your work at Blue Skies.  Sales have been good and the Art League pays the space fee.  Take advantage of this great opportunity.  Call Julie for details.

                                          TIDEWATER ARTS OUTREACH

   If you would like to be a part of sharing quality art experiences with people who have limited access, this wonderful group founded in 2003 brings art and music to adult day programs, convalescent homes, family homeless shelters, youth programs, hospitals, centers for people with disabilities, assisted living centers and more.   TAO is nonprofit.  They could use your help and talent.  To volunteer, call 757 965-5155 or email TWartsoutreach@cox.net .   Check out their website at TWartsoutreach.org.
